Turn to Page.... Arizona
Ray gets to write.
Stop reading. Close your eyes and imagine you are a teenager picturing the coolest cave you can think of. Antelope Canyon in Page, AZ is much more than that. For decades during my work career, one easy conversation starter that I used was to ask about people's favorite vacations. I listened and have been waiting to go to see Page (not seepage) for more than a decade.
We were thrilled.
The Antelope Canyon tours take small groups on a guided tour through canyons and caves that have been formed by wind and water for centuries. We took the Lower Antelope Canyon tour at midday. That way, the sun shone into the caverns. The top openings are small and some of the passages are tight, but the light makes the caves look like something from another world.
Looking up from inside the cavern (about 25-60 feet underground at different points during the tour):
Sun shining through the cavern top - a captured moment:
Every twist and turn through the canyon gave us a different, unique view of the rocks and the sky.
Emmitt, our tour guide gave us some iPhone photo pointers: use Vivid Warm to enhance the natural colors of the stone, and tap the sky to make it a brilliant blue. Good to know!
See the seahorse?
Looking to the sides:
This rock formation is called "Lady in the Wind." Hair streaming, neck, chin - do you see it?
Here's how it looked when our tour group emerged out of the caverns. We climbed up 4 flights of stairs and came up out of a crack in the ground.
And yes, I bought the t-shirt.
We also took in the now famous Horseshoe Bend in the Colorado River... this was the most crowded place we have been yet. Apparently social media says it is THE PLACE TO BE. The geography is amazing, but I found it to be cooler in the caverns below ground.
Here is our selfie for all of you on our virtual social media.
Sunset in Page
Late in the day we got the call that our tour of the Grand Canyon (planned for Sunday) was in danger of being cancelled due to high winds. So we are headed out to see that tomorrow.
